Local attorney Parker Layrisson has authored a book that explains Louisiana personal injury law to people hurt in car crashes.

AccidentHandbookCoverThe comprehensive 325-page guide is entitled Accident Handbook: The Practical Guide to Louisiana Personal Injury Law for Car Wreck Victims.  The book, based on Layrisson’s experience helping his clients deal with personal injuries since 2004, shares step-by-step solutions that help injury victims recover the compensation they deserve.

“People injured in car wrecks have urgent questions about who will pay their medical bills, what to do next, when to take action, where to turn for advice,” said Layrisson.  “Before they talk to insurance adjusters, sign legal forms, or hire the wrong lawyer, these folks deserve reliable information that they can trust.”

Accident Handbook teaches accident victims about the challenges they will face during the accident claims process.  It focuses on factors injured people should consider before giant insurance companies or unethical “ambulance chaser” lawyers try to take advantage of the situation.

“On one hand, insurance companies like Allstate make money by paying injured victims as little as possible.  On the other hand, most lawyer advertising stinks.  That makes determining whom you can trust very difficult,” said Layrisson.

“Unfortunately, most accident victims do not have a personal connection with a trustworthy injury lawyer.  They need a better place to start than a tacky TV commercial.  That’s why the info in this book is so valuable,” said Layrisson.

“Knowledge is power, and this book will empower regular folks against giant car insurance companies like Allstate, State Farm, and GEICO,” said Layrisson.

Accident Handbook provides practical guidance for handling most aspects of a car wreck personal injury case and the insurance claim process. Topics include: protecting your rights after an accident; determining how much your claim is worth; fixing your vehicle property damage; and what to expect during your case.

The book reveals tactics used by insurance companies and shows readers how to recover a full and fair settlement. It also addresses specific mistakes to avoid, social media precautions, and time limitations pertinent to an injury case. Legal concepts such as mediation, arbitration, discovery, and liens are explained by Layrisson in an easy-to-understand instructive manner.

Advance praise for Accident Handbook calls it “thorough and well-crafted” and “guide for real people, not lawyers.”  One independent reviewer recommends that auto injury victims use this book “to make sure that their attorney is doing what they should be doing.”  Another stated that “Parker’s book is the sling every accident victim should have in their arsenal to take on Goliath insurance companies.”

The hardback book was published by HF Group and it retails for $29.95. Hardcover copies will be available for purchase online at Amazon.com and locally at Bayou Booksellers in Hammond.  The author also plans to donate copies for free public use to local libraries.

Layrisson dedicated the book to his parents, Eddie and Celeste Layrisson.

Parker Layrisson runs law offices in New Orleans and Ponchatoula, Louisiana.  He is an award winning attorney and former federal judicial law clerk, state assistant attorney general, parish special counsel, and city prosecutor who served as editor-in-chief of the Louisiana Law Review.  In addition to Accident Handbook, Layrisson has authored several books, articles, and a blog.

Layrisson’s practice focuses exclusively on car accident injury and wrongful death cases, but he does not advertise on TV, over radio, or in the Yellow Pages. Instead, nearly 90% of his cases come by referrals from former clients, doctors, attorneys, and other stakeholders in our local community.

“Having served injured clients for over a decade, this book is a natural next step toward helping even more people to solve the problems presented by car accidents,” said Layrisson. “I want to share my knowledge so victims feel informed, encouraged, and proactive in handling their case, with or without an attorney. Accident Handbook offers practical answers to questions most people don’t even know to ask.  I have held nothing back.  I hope this book reduces stress and improves results for people dealing with life-changing personal injuries.”
